Projects: 2004-2005

The Nursery

Breckfield Road North, Liverpool L5 0RQ

Service:
Feasibility Studies & Full Technical (Building).

Project:
Expanding existing nursery facility.

General Information:
Comtechsa carried out several feasibility studies before the present scheme was undertaken.
The first feasibility study looked at an environmentally friendly extension to accommodate 50 children. Planning permission was given but this project could not go ahead as sufficient funds could not be raised.
A second feasibility looked at creating a traditional brick clad extension for 28 nursery places. Amended planning permission was obtained for this scheme. Unfortunately, this scheme had to be abandoned due to project funding limitations.
A prefabricated building extension scheme was explored. Although this scheme met the project budget, it did not meet the building life expectancy to satisfy the funders.
Another scheme was undertaken. This was a hybrid scheme following the existing building type. With a very tight project budget and a short delivery time this made it a challenge. A new planning permission was obtained. A two stage tender was adopted with some elements of contractor design to meet the funding and project completion deadlines.
Comtechsa played a supporting role in the realisation of this project which involved two planning approvals, four schemes with a tight budget and completion deadlines.

Clients Needs:
Successful operation of existing nursery facility by BNENC created the demand for expansion of the service to full day care provision for larger groups.

Funding:
New Opportunities Fund and Sure Start £283,000.00.

Completion:
October 2004
