Projects: 2004-2005

Pre-School Equipment Resource Centre

Lambert Way, Islington, Liverpool, L3 8NT

Service:
Full Technical (Building)

Project:
General refurbishment and adaptation of vacant area on the ground floor of their existing premises into a small shop unit selling educational equipment and toys.

General Information:
PERC are now a long and well established group providing child care and training rooms together with a large toy library facility. They first moved into their large two storey building back in 1998 with Comtechsa's help, and with the intention of sub-letting part of the building. However, with their own growth and plans to extend their current offices and training facilities on the first floor, the group have decided to occupy all the building. The remaining vacant part of the building has been ear marked for an educational toy store which would generate a revenue for the organisation, as well as meeting a need.

Clients Needs:
PERC has only recently completed the adaptation of their existing crèche into a fully registered day nursery, and an application package has already been produced towards additional offices and training rooms on the first floor of the building, therefore resources are quite tight. However, the group are anxious that someone will open a similar shop, therefore they are keen to open the shop as soon as possible to establish a market base.

Funding:
By using the Probationary Services to carry out the bulk of the works, the group only have to pay for the materials they use. The balance of monies required will come from their own funds & Merseyside Enterprise Network.
The total project cost is estimated to be in the region of £6,000.00.

Completion:
Both Planning and Building Control approvals have been obtained. The group intend to use the Probationary Services to carry out the bulk of the work and approved contractors where necessary (ie. alterations/adaptations to the existing electrical installation).
