Service:
Feasibility & Full Technical - Building
Project:
To provide full accessibility to all parts of the college.
General Information:
Various possible locations for the lift were considered. The solution places it in the stairwell of the middle unit of the three occupied by the college.
This would involve removal of several important original features from the listed building. Fortunately, the college own and intend to refurbish a fire-damaged unit of the terrace (No. 115) within which the salvaged features could be reinstated.
Clients Needs:
Rotunda Community College has operated from this listed Georgian terrace since 1989. One of the staircases has already been modified to make it more suitable for people with limited mobility, but wheelchair users, for example, still find much of the premises inaccessible.

Funding:
A source of funding was identified and on that basis detailed price was agreed with a contractor. At the last minute - and after the lift itself was ordered, the funding on offer was substantially reduced. This has prompted a major re-think of the options for the College.
Completion:
The hope was to complete the lift installation by (or soon after) the beginning of Autumn Term 2004.
