Feasibility Study - Building
Project:
For the long term, the Al Ghazali Centre are considering a new building, but in the short term, the difficult stepped access to their building has been a major problem.

General Information:
The existing entrance steps would be completely removed to provide space to insert a platform lift.
A new front door would be needed, as it now extends down to pavement level.
Clients Needs:
The most difficult bit in making a building is often getting wheelchair accessibility to any part of the building. The scheme proposed would only have given access to the ground floor, but that is a very useful start...

Funding:
A grant of approximately £5,000 from the city council to enable access improvements, provided a starting point towards an estimated requirement approaching £20K.
The developer's scheme, which eventually went forward, was carried out the developers expense.
Completion:
At the same time that detailed quotations were provided, the developer of a neighbouring plot of land offered to exchange land occupied by the centre for land that could be used for an external ramp. The developer has prepared a separate scheme and this was completed in late 2005.
