Service:
Feasibility Study and Full Technical - Building
Project:
The Lighthouse provides a variety of services in connection with drug abuse across Merseyside. At "Alternatives", vocational training is provided in a range of skills from hairdressing to industrial steelwork, with additional support in basic education and life-skills, etc.
General Information:
The projection of the offices beyond the level of the existing enclosures, provides a connection between the offices and the open area at ground level.
Part of the ground level area is to be used for fork-lift-truck training (one of the skills taught).

Clients Needs:
The project has been operating from these premises for several years, and as they have expanded, more space is required.
This can be fitted inside the existing building, and there are operational advantages in having the additional space at first floor level.
The proposals include plans for additional offices immediately, and for Interview rooms as a later phase.
Further ideas include expansion of the cafeteria (under the tensile canopy) and more speculatively, a fountain in the internal "Piazza", which would help take dust out of the air.

Funding:
The initial phase will cost of the order of £80k. Some elements could be done in-house, and self-build was considered for some of the future phases.
Completion:
The design was developed in summer 2005. The organisation's internal review of their priorities, put implementation of this project on hold.
