Projects: 2005-2006

Ormskirk District Scouts

Lathom Village, West Lancashire

Service:
Feasibility Study (Building)

Project:
Design for a replacement scouts HQ for the Ormskirk District.

General Information:
Their existing building in Lathom Village is on the verge of collapse. The scouts need a replacement which can provide for regular scouting activities as well as faculties (such as for meetings and storage) for the whole district. In addition the replacement building must fulfil the needs being met by the existing building: village hall and local theatre.
They are looking for a building with exemplary environmental credentials

Clients Needs:
The present building (originally a WW1 barracks relocated as village theatre by the 3rd Earl of Lathom) is in the Lathom Conservation area, and though not listed, has historical associations with the Earl's friends Ivor Novello and Noel Coward.
The proposed building is designed as a highly insulated lightweight box, so that it can respond quickly to heating demands as different parts of it are brought into use. The design provides for heat recovery ventilation driven by wind power.

Funding:
The scouts are now looking for funders.

Completion:
The feasibility study was completed in Spring 2005.
